Creative Communication: Innovation and Imagination

This is the fifth of five posts outlining my favorite traits of effective communication.

Want a laugh-out-loud experience seeing some creative marketing? See the link in the comments from @Jason Feifer’s post this morning. How many times do you think the people who experienced this told friends about it?

Creativity can transform how messages are perceived and remembered.

A little creativity can capture the audience's attention, improve engagement, and increase retention. Try one of these five ways to bring creativity into your communications:

  1. Storytelling – Create emotional connections, humanize the workplace, and make lessons feel more tangible.
  2. Creative writing – Metaphors and analogies can simplify or illustrate complex ideas.
  3. Humor and playfulness – Used appropriately, humor can make a serious topic, like security awareness training, more interesting.
  4. Visuals – Make data easier to digest with visuals, particularly when conveying complex information.
  5. Interactivity – Providing a feedback mechanism creates dialogue rather than a monologue. It shows employees their input matters.

Creative communications can spark greater employee engagement and make key messages stick.
